Regulations Regarding Chronic Wasting Disease Management in Allegany County

Cooperating taxidermists approved to handle deer from the Chronic Wasting Disease Management Area (CWDMA) in Allegany County:

The following taxidermists are approved to possess and preserve, mount or tan deer carcasses or deer parts taken from within Maryland’s CWDMA. This provision provides an opportunity for hunters harvesting deer within Maryland’s CWDMA to transport carcasses or other deer parts directly to one of these approved taxidermists for taxidermy services or for preparation for transport to another taxidermist. The following Authorized Taxidermists will work closely with DNR to ensure the proper disposal of any waste remaining after an item is mounted.

Deer ‘leg quarters’ may be removed from the Chronic Wasting Disease Management Area (CWDMA)

Hunters who harvest a deer in the CWDMA may transport ‘leg quarters’ outside the CWDMA. Leg quarters may include the bones, meat and hide of the legs, but no portion of the spinal column may be attached. This provision is intended to accommodate hunters in the field complying with the CWD regulations that require avoidance of the high risk portions of the carcass.
