Scales & Tales Program​

The Cunningham Falls State Park Aviary is home to 21 non releasable animals including raptors and reptiles, both native and non native. All of the animals serve as ambassadors for the MPS Scales & Tales program and are used for educational outreach.​

Hours of Operation *Hours are subject to change*

  • May: Weekends, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Memorial Day to Labor Day: Every day, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • September & October: Weekends, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • November - April: Closed, though still viewable outside of gated areas.

The Scales & Tales program is funded through program service charges and donations. If you wish to make a donation to assist with animal care, please visit the Friends of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill State Parks page or see the donation box outside of the Aviary. Please note that during the winter months, the animals may be removed from public display or may be in a period of brumation, not visible to the public.

Historic Catoctin Iron Furnace

The historic Catoctin Iron Furnace, located along Route 806 in Frederick County, Maryland was a site for iron-making for 127 years from 1776 to 1903.
