Birding

Upper Marlboro is home to one of the most diverse bird populations in Maryland. Over 220 species have been sighted at Merkle NRMA. The park has diverse habitat ranging from lowland forests, open fields and swamp and marshlands, as well as access to the Patuxent River.

Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!

A large bird-viewing area with binoculars and field identification books is located inside of the visitor center and offers many hours of enjoyment.
