ALERT: Governor Hogan has expanded opportunities for outdoor exercise and recreational activities in Maryland State Parks following earlier restrictions related to COVID-19. The Maryland Park Service is currently in the process of opening campgrounds in parks around the state, which will be a multi-phase process, involving the preparation of facilities for visitors, opening restrooms and bathhouses, and bringing seasonal staff online to manage the safety and well-being of visitors. We are working diligently to open individual parks as quickly as possible with Shad Landing and Milburn Landing scheduled to open for overnight stays on May 29, 2020.
The park is open for passive recreation and exercise activities such as hiking, bicycling, canoe/kayaking and playground use. Recreational fishing and boating are allowed.
Closures still in effect include Youth Group camping, Family Group camping and shelter rentals, as well as access to offices, the Camp Store, Nature Center, Boat Rentals and the Shad Landing Pool. Programs and events remain cancelled at this time.
Tucked away on Maryland's lower eastern shore, Pocomoke River State Park is well known for cypress swamps that border the Pocomoke River. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to the Chesapeake Bay. The park provides a base for a vast array of outdoor and tourist activities including fishing, biking, birding, boating, hiking and more. Amenities at the park include camping, mini cabins, boat launch, picnic areas, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a swimming pool. Both parks are also centrally located within 18,000 acres of the Pocomoke State Forest and its vast trail system.
There are two distinct areas of Pocomoke River State Park: Shad Landing, on the south side of the river off Route 113, and Millburn Landing, on the north side of the Pocomoke River on Route 364. It is a 25-minute drive between the two areas of Pocomoke River State Park.
