Rocks State Park

Kilgore Falls / Falling Branch Area Reservation System

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are reservations now required?

The permit / reservation system is being implemented to protect the natural resources of the area and provide a higher quality visitor experience and improved customer service. Due to very high demand, an average of 300 vehicles were being turned away on busy summer weekends.

Why not just increase the size of the parking lot or run a shuttle bus?

The capacity of the parking lot was designed to accommodate the maximum number of people who could visit the site without compromising the ecological integrity of the falls and to prevent unsafe and/or crowded conditions. The majority of visitors congregate near the falls and can trample vegetation and compact the soil.

Are reservations required on weekdays?

No. Weekday visitation is generally at a more manageable level, and we encourage people to visit on weekdays. Reservations are only required on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.

How much will reservations cost?

Reservations and parking permits are free of charge.

Can I park somewhere else and walk or get dropped off without a permit?

No. Allowing people to park off-site or drop people off would compromise our carrying capacity limitations related to resource protection, public safety, and quality of the visitor experience We are supporting efforts by local police to prevent negative impacts to the local community, such as illegal parking and trespassing.
