This year’s Park Quest takes place in the High Knob Area of Gambrill State Park. Begin at the South Frederick Overlook. The address closest to the starting point is 8448 High Knob Road, Frederick, MD 21702.

Gambrill State Park is a small, mountain park full of recreational opportunities. The most popular features of Gambrill State Park include the historic rental facility called the Tea Room and its 16 miles of multi-use trails.

The park is separated into two areas: The Rock Run Area and the High Knob Area. 

The Rock Run Area features picnic areas, a 34 site campground (including 4 camper cabins), and a small license-free fishing pond. The High Knob Area features three native stone overlooks, the Tea Room, picnic areas, and three historic picnic shelters. Trails used for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian riding connect all areas together.

Directions to Ga​mbrill State Park

  • From Baltimore (Westbound): Take Route 70 West towards Frederick. Take Exit 49 for US-40 Alt toward Braddock Heights/Middletown. Turn right onto US-40 Alt East/Old National Pike. Turn left onto Old Camp Road. Turn left onto US-40 West. Turn right onto Gambrill Park Road. At the top of the mountain make a left into the High Knob Area.
  • From Hagerstown (Eastbound): Take US-40 East towards Frederick. Turn left onto Gambrill Park Road. At the top of the mountain make a left into the High Knob Area.
  • Make a reservation to stay at the park.
