Recreation – Shooting Range

Savage River State Forest offers a public Shooting Range. The range has ten stations under a pavilion with distances from 25 to 100 yards. The cost of the range is $5 per person per day. Annual permits can be obtained for $25 for an individual and $50 for a family (anyone residing in your household). If interested in obtaining a yearly permit, complete the yellow form in full along with the Self-registration green envelopes. The perforated portion of the envelope is your temporary permit which is effective immediately. Envelopes are collected daily and a laminated permit will be mailed to the address provided on your self-registration envelope. Self-registration envelopes are available at the bulletin board. Please pay before shooting. Complete the self-registration envelope completely, insert your payment (cash or check payable to DNR), tear off the perforation portion of the envelope (this is your receipt) and place the envelope with the payment into the green pay pipe. The Range is open every day from sunrise to sunset. There are times when the Range is closed for adverse weather, maintenance and trainings. Closures are posted at the Range and you may call the forest headquarters for this information, as well. No fully automatic weapons are permitted. Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted. Use all safety protocols while at the Range.
