Green Ridge State Forest has over 80 miles of trails open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders of any ability. Not all trails are open to all recreational pursuits and it is recommended that before engaging in any activity, patrons should visit or contact the state forest headquarters to become aware of any trail restrictions. A backpacking permit must be obtained at the forest headquarters or at any of the self-registration areas.

Off Road Vehicles

Off Road Vehicles are prohibited on Green Ridge State Forest. Only licensed motorized vehicles are permitted on the designated roadways.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is allowed on designated and maintained primitive roads designed to accommodate recreational use. Horses are not allowed on designated hiking or mountain bike trails.

Mountain Biking

The Green Ridge Mountain Bike Trail is a 12.5 mile circuit of largely single track moderate to difficult riding. Brochures and maps for this trail are available at the Headquarters office.

Hiking Trails

Green Ridge has 50 plus miles of hiking trails available for day hikes or multi-day backpacking experiences. Trail guides including maps are available for purchase at the Green Ridge Headquarters.

The trails are as follows:

  • Scenic Overlook Trail—50 Yards (Easy)
  • Pine Lick Trail—6 Miles (Moderate) (Blue)
  • Twin Oaks Hiking Trail—4 Mile Loop (Moderate) (Pink)
  • Long Pond Trail—9 Miles (Difficult) (Red)
  • Deep Run/Big Run Trail—7 Miles (Moderate) (Green)
  • Log Roll Trail—4.5 Miles (Moderate) (Orange)
  • Great Eastern Trail—18 Miles (Moderate/Difficult) (White)

The Green Ridge Hiking Trail System connects with both the Buchanan State Forest Trail and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park Trail. For more information contact the Green Ridge Headquarters or:
