Aquatic (Fisheries) Scientific Collection Permit

Collection Permits allow the sampling, removal or possession of aquatic organisms from Maryland waters that may not be permitted under commercial or recreational fishing licenses. This permit covers scientific research or educational projects, collections of display animals, ecological monitoring or in-stream surveys, but may not be used to collect animals for sale or personal use.

Please visit our Wildlife and Heritage Service scientific collection permit webpage for collection permits for non-aquatic organisms.

An application form for a Fisheries Scientific Collection Permit is available below, and can be submitted electronically. Maps of intended sampling locations must be emailed to the department when submitted. Permits are issued annually, for a $10 fee payable by check or money order, or electronically through our online payment system. The organization receiving the permit must be listed on an electronic payment.

A summary report of activities is required annually in addition to any other information required under the permit. There is no standard form for submitting activity reports.
