Found a Snakehead in a Small Puddle
Type: Freshwater
Region: Southern
Location: Puddle in Leonardtown
Afternoon! Im a resident of Leonardtown and work at the World Gym in Leonardtown. I was out for a run about 7am today (July 27th) when I looked over the guardrail where there is usually a small stream (always looking for a fish or two!) and I first noticed how dried up this particular stream was (right off of 234, roughly a half mile past the gym heading west), and then noticed the long mass showing from the small puddle. Attatched is both a picture of the snakehead I found upon closer inspection, and the miniscule puddle I found it in. It was maybe 4 ft by 4 ft and no deeper than 6 inches. I saw it, poked it with a stick to see if it was alive and quickly returned to the gym where by chance I had a net in my car and went back and threw it in a box and brought it home. I since killed it but I could not believe where I found it let alone how big it was! The fish ended up being 26 inches long, and probably nearing 10 pounds. There are a few farm ponds close by, and besides that the largest close bodies of water are Breton Bay and St. Clements Bay. Pretty cool way to start my day and my weekend. Been seeking one of these bad boys for a long time! Coolest fishing story I have, and the biggest fish I have caught in freshwater (by hand/net/or rod n reel)!
